Injection Molded Rigid PVC Using Specialty Minerals Precipitated Calcium Carbonates

All of the procedures described in the section on the compounding of PVC apply to rigid PVC compounds for injection molding. Click here to view that information. Of particular interest is the ability of an Ultra-Pflex® precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) or Calofort® S PCC-filled compound to produce an excellent surface finish while providing high impact strength with a minimum of impact modifier. Compounds containing Super-Pflex® 200 or Super-Pflex® MS PCC can be cost-effective solutions for the production of PVC pipe fittings and other building products.

Given high resin prices, Super-Pflex® PCC’s offers higher filler loadings than ultrafine ground calcium carbonates (GCCs) and provides the compounder/formulator with a proven way to control overall formulation costs without sacrificing critical property or performance requirements.

Click here to read more about Specialty Minerals Inc.’s (SMI’s) PCCs for rigid or unplasticized polyvinyl chloride.

The product data sheets for the recommended SMI PCCs can be downloaded by clicking one of the following product names: Ultra-Pflex® nano ultrafine PCC; Calofort® S nano ultrafine PCC; Super-Pflex® 200 fine PCC; and Super-Pflex® MS fine PCC.
