Specialty Minerals Inc. (SMI) antiblock products are talc based and available in surface-treated and non-surface-treated forms. SMI talc antiblocks are designed for high antiblocking efficiency with retention of film mechanical properties. Surface-treated talc improves dispersion and compatibility with polyolefins, while also lowering additive interaction.

Talc/mineral blend antiblocks (Optibloc® and Clear-Bloc® talc antiblock series) are for film applications requiring high clarity, low haze, and lowest additive interaction. ABT® 2501 is a non-surface-treated talc antiblock recommended for applications where odor issues are a concern in a specific end-use application. Microbloc® talc antiblock is designed for unique applications and non-olefin resin systems where enhanced adhesion between polymer and talc is important.
Antiblock selection always involves tradeoffs between antiblocking efficiency, film strength retention, optical performance, film thickness, and application cost considerations. Use this product selector chart to make your choice of specialty minerals antiblock product, or contact us with the details of your specific application for a customized recommendation.
