Specialty Minerals Inc. (SMI) produces a variety of ultrafine and nano precipitated calcium carbonates (PCCS) that are useful in body shop and underbody PVC plastisol sealants.
A model PVC formulation was used in the SMI Sealant Laboratory for the evaluation of rheological and physical properties among PCCs. This evaluation compared some of the PCCs that Specialty minerals manufactures in the U.S.

Products tested included nano PCCs of 0.06 and 0.07 microns and ultrafine PCCs of 0.15 microns. All were coated, some with stearic acid, others with proprietary treatments.
