Albaglos® precipitated calcium carbonates (PCCs) are a family of Specialty Minerals Inc.’s (SMI’s) products designed for coated paper and paperboard applications. With precisely controlled particle-size distributions, Albaglos® PCC provides excellent high-shear rheology and blade cleanliness needed for high solids blade-coating applications.
Albaglos® PCCs can be used at high solids coating levels (>50%) to improve brightness and opacity while still maintaining sheet gloss. The resulting improvement allows for a reduction in titanium dioxide (Ti02) coat weight. These unique PCCs also increase the porosity of the coated sheet, thereby reducing the tendency to blister during offset printing.
Albaglos® PCC is available in a range of solid prismatic calcite particle sizes designed to produce various glossing levels from full gloss to dull to matte. Paper surfaces coated with Albaglos® PCC exhibit improved ink receptivity and faster ink set time without sacrificing gloss ink holdout.
